Along with a successful basketball career Michael Atkinson has a wealth of teaching and coaching experience. Mike has been a director and staff member for various camps across the West Coast and United States. The experience and teaching ability along with a Certification through the “American Counsel on Exercise” makes for a very versatile instructor and teacher. ”I have always been into the science of training and tying it together with basketball seemed like a natural fit” Mike stated.

Having attended over 200 camps as a player himself it has given him great insight and a holistic approach to motivation and instruction. He has learned from some of the best coaches, instructors and trainers in the country as a player in college and professionally and has used these experiences to teach and motivate today’s youth to reach their potential.

Michael’s teaching philosophy stresses the importance of integrity and encourages his campers/students to reach their potential and goals not only by themselves but also in a team atmosphere. Michael has a degree from Missouri Valley College in Business Management and has his sights on an MBA in Sports Management in the future. He currently is a Personal Trainer at Sierra Strength and Speed, National Consultant for Elite Pro Performance L.L.C. and Recognized as a specialized trainer by Pacific AAU. Coach Colie has had much success throughout her playing career and is excited to pass along her knowledge to they youth of Northern Nevada. She plans on staying involved with the game for years to come and upon graduation in December will be attending Graduate School for Sports Administration, in hopes to find a way to combine being an educator with athletics as an Athletic Director of a local area high school.

I was introduced to softball at 4 years old on a T-ball team. Tournament league began at 7 years old with the Lightning Organization and at age 9, I'm proud to say that our team won Nationals.  I played on the Lightning until I was 13 along with other teams such as the Diamonds, the Attack, and ended tournament ball with Carson Comets at age 17.

My knowledge of pitching started at the age of 9 because I played well at every position and felt pitching was a good challenge. I made Varsity as a freshman at Galena High School and was their 2nd string pitcher. From my Sophomore year and on, I lead the team as the #1 pitcher.

I started teaching pitching techniques in 2006. I continue passing my wisdom onto others as I'm passionate about participating in their progress and helping them become better pitchers.  The various pitches I offer are:

  • 2 fastballs (4 seam and 2 seam)
  • Knuckle ball
  • Curve ball
  • Rise ball
  • Screw ball
  • Flip and Circle change up

Along with a successful Soccer career on the high school and college levels, Lake Hubbard has a wide range of teaching and coaching experience. Lake has been a camp trainer at the Indiana University, a private trainer at Bloomington United Soccer School, a coach of a U-14 travel team, as well as a volunteer at the local high school. His experience along with a certification through the “National Soccer Association” makes Lake for a well seasoned trainer and coach for soccer players at any level.

Having grown up in the college soccer town of Bloomington, Indiana it was always a dream of every kid to play for the University. After living that dream it has giving him the insight, motivation, and inspiration needed to be an instructor not only in sport but also in life. "Playing under coach Jerry Yeagly I will never forget how his focus on team philosophy and spirit brings out the best of his players"

Lake's soccer philosophy focuses both individual ball control and team awareness as well as knowledge of the games finer points. Along with inspiring a true love for the game outside of ones self. He currently is a Sous Chef at 22 Bistro in Squaw Valley and still plays soccer in the local mens leagues.

Participating in athletics allow for developing essential skills and traits that are key to building a successful future. Athletics teach people to communicate, be independent, resourceful, develop a winning attitude and mental toughness, and have integrity and self-reliance. Athletics teach sportsmanship, honesty, and provides opportunities to work with a variety of individuals that expand our ability to get along. These are characteristics and skills that are essential in today’s society to be a good employee, spouse, parent, coach and citizen.

As a coach I take my responsibility to instill these attributes very seriously and believe that on and off the court I am a constant role model and teacher in the “game of life”. I love volleyball… but I love life more and believe in helping others be as successful as possible both on and off the court.

Volleyball offers an opportunity to compete, to test oneself. As a test, volleyball enables you to compare your skills as a player and develop your character. A lot is said about volleyball building character. I do not agree that character development just happens as a result of volleyball participation but that you must modify your behavior/character as you are confronted with conflict in the volleyball setting. I believe that volleyball participation should make you a better person and that this can only happen as a result of the efforts of both you and me.
